This is a visual of a skeleton that has labels of all its bones. I chose this picture because it gives a good visual description of the Osteology unit and reminds me of a activity we did where we labeled the bones of the body.
Reflection: At the beginning of this unit I thought having to learn all these bones would be hard but it ended up being pretty easy to remember the names. At the end of the unit i felt pretty confident that I knew the names of the bones and where they are. I was left wondering more about the epiphyseal unions because I didn't fully understand it.

What is Osteology? Osteology is the study of bones. This type of work can be used to determine things such as the age, gender, race, and height of the body. What value do bones have as evidence? Using this work in the forensic sense can help scientists determine the age, gender, race, and height of the body. It can also help solve the cause of death in certain cases. Bones are a very good evidence tool because they often have signs of what happened on them which helps authorities. How can skeletal remains be used to determine the identity of a unknown person? Skeletal remains can be used to determine the identity of a unknown person because Measuring bones helps determine the estimated height of the body so you need to get the ones that will give the most useful information such as the femur, and humerus. You measure these bones and input the data into a formula to give you an estimated height + or - 1 ½ ft. Looking at the pelvis is the best way to determine gender because the opening on a female is wider and the shape is more circular where a male is heart shaped and more narrow. By looking at the skull you can collect data on what race it could be. By looking at the features if the skull you can match it up with current known data of certain races and compare features to make an educated guess.you can measure certain bones and make observations to make a guess based on your evidence.
